Panto Auditions - Sunday 5th September

We’re delighted to announce that panto is coming back to the Athenaeum Centre, Warminster this Christmas and we can’t wait to welcome our audiences back as we present MOTHER GOOSE!  A ‘cracking’ fun-size pantomime adventure that is well worth a gander!

This year’s panto may feel a little different to previous years with the new measures we’ve put in place to keep our audiences, creative team and performers safe.  However, we are confident that the panto spirit, the spectacle and side-splitting comedy will feel just as magical as ever.

It is a full-length production but has been carefully trimmed to no more than 90-minutes with all the best bits included!  No interval to reduce social interaction (with the opportunity to add one in nearer the time) and a smaller cast so that all actors can be ‘partner cast’ (two actors per role) to help reduce any risk.  A Red Castand a Blue Cast.  Each will be made up of character roles (ages 16 and above, on or before 31st August 2021) and dancers (School Year 8 to Year 13).

Each cast is guaranteed to perform in 6 shows but will need to remain available for all 12 performances.  If covid cases arise in one of the casts you may need to perform at short notice in additional shows to cover your partner.

Important: There is a £40 production fee if successful in gaining a place in the show.  The production fee is due via bank transfer before the first rehearsal.  In addition, characters are required to provide their own stage shoes for the show, together with their own personal makeup.  Dancers are required to provide their own dance shoes, together with two pairs of tights and their own makeup.

We rehearse every Thursday evening and Sunday morning.

Click here to see the DRAFT REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

(Which is subject to change once the show has been cast and we know everyone’s conflicts)

You may not be called to every rehearsal, and we ask that you remain flexible, as rehearsal schedules can often change during the process.

We will rehearse partner casts together. Both you and your partner will be present whenever your character is involved in a scene or musical number.  When watching your counterpart onstage, you will witness your character in the context of the story, just as the audience will.  Having a partner will provide a second set of ideas and perspectives for exploring the role.

10.15am – Sign In

10.30am – Dance Workshop

11.30am – Break

11.50am – Audition slots (Each auditionee will be allocated a 10-minute time slot)

Time slots will be allocated during Sign In on a first come first served basis. Audition slots will run all afternoon from 11:50am. Feel free to pop out and come back for your time.

We will aim to contact everybody via email by Tuesday 7th September to let you know the outcome of your audition and we will await your reply confirming acceptance of the role. Once everybody has accepted their role, we will post a full cast list on our Facebook page.

What to prepare?

Acting Pieces – If auditioning for a Character, choose from the script extracts.  You will get to perform them during your 10-minute time slot, with a member of the Creative Team reading in other parts.

Audition Songs – Prepare in advance the following song(s):

DEMON FOIE GRAS ‘I Put A Spell On You’

FAIRY LIQUID ‘Holding Out For A Hero’

SILLY BILLY ‘The Lazy Song’

MOTHER GOOSE ‘Fabulous Baby’

DANCERS ‘Shout Out To My Ex’

We are more interested in how you bring the panto character to life during the song, rather than an accurate note-for-note performance. If auditioning for more than one character, please learn all the songs related to those characters.  At the audition you will be expected to sing the song(s) in front of the Creative Team during your 10-minute time slot.

Dance Workshop – A short dance routine will be taught to everyone on the day to “Shake a Tailfeather” and you will perform it in small groups.  It is important to try your best and show us lots of personality. We are looking for potential and ambition, rather than a perfected routine. So just try your best and don’t panic – we are here to help.
